On January 25, 1937, in the Churdan, Iowa, home of his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Oscar C. Lohr delivered his grandson, David C. Lohr, surprising his father, Dr. Phillips Eugene Lohr, who had been out on a house call.

Dr. Phillips Eugene Lohr joined the United States Naval Reserve in 1942. During World War II, he served with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific Theater for 18 months. He was a Lieutenant in the Medical Corps.

Dr. Phillips E. Lohr practiced medicine in Churdan, Iowa, both before and after his service in the Naval Reserve.

He passed away on November 4, 1965, in Churdan.
