DEATH BECKONS AGED RESIDENT
James F. Blackard Nearly Readed 90th Milestone -- Rites Saturday

James Floyd Blackard, who was looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday within a few days, passed away at 10 p.m. Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Hillabold on Library Square. He had been very feeble for a number of years and critically ill fo rten days.

Mr. Blackard was born Nov. 26, 1854, in Wythe county, Virginia, the son of Peter and Rebecca Johnson Blackard. He later came to Madison, Ind., where he was widely known as a shipbuilder and was active until ten years ago when he came to Greensburg to make his home.

Mr. Blackard was a member of the Hope lodge, No. 13, Knights of Pythias, Jeffersonville, Ind., having joined in 1880 and was honored with a life membership after being a member for 50 years.

On Aug. 19, 1879, he was married to Lola Belle McLain who preceded him Dec. 5, 1936. Five children were born to this union. Two died in infancy.

Surviving are: Three children, Mrs. Harry (Mae) Hillabold, of Greensburg, Mrs. John G. (Edith) Keller, of Indianapolis, and Clyde W. Blackard, of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Donald B. Keller and Clyde E. Blackard, both of Indianapolis; one great-grandson, Allan Keller, of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Blackard was the last of a family of seven children, five sisters and a brother having preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Howe funeral home, where friends may call at any time. The Rev. E.F. Schneider will officiate. The burial will be in Springdale cemetery at Madison, Ind. The Knights of Pythias lodge will hold its ritualistic services at 8 o'clock this evening.
