He was born July 16, 1941, in Senath, Mo., a son of Orville A. and Luveda Long Collins. He married Loretta Jean Young on April 7, 1959. in Springfield, Ill. He had been employed with Bell Helicopter Aircraft as a machinist and was also a minister. He was a member of the Paris Church of God.

Collins; and stepmother, Reba Lee Brooks Collins; children, Tammy and Harold Heflin, Tina Bland, Wendy Collins, Larry Joe Collins Jr., Mark W. Collins and Lisa Collins; grandchildren, Jamie Bland, Robert Joe Miller, Stephanie Woolsey, Daniel Miller, Jason Miller, Charee Collins, Tashenia Kara, Natasha Chavez, Nickie Billie; nine great grandchildren with two more on the way; brother, Bryan Collins; sisters, Barbra Cox, June Pickens, Connie Blanchard and Yavonne Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
