Mr. Edwards was born Jan. 14, 1906, in Muldrow, Indian Territory, to George Washington Edwards and Belle (Rhodes) Edwards. He died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, in Vian.
Mr. Edwards was a retired rancher and was in the Merchant Marines. He worked in the WPA building the Grand River Dam and was a bus driver and owned his own coal mining truck. He attended Muldrow Assembly of God Church and enjoyed the Circle of Friends Group.
He married Bonnie Iva Edwards, Feb. 20, 1938, in Crawford County, Arkansas. She preceded him in death, Feb. 16, 1995, in Sallisaw.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris Merrill of Muldrow; three grandchildren and spouses, Marvin and Michelle Merrill of Springfield, Mo., Mark and Gretchen Merrill of Charlotte, N.C. and Sherry and David Taylor of Muldrow; five great-grandchildren, Grant Merrill and his wife, Meghan, of Arkadelphia, Ark., Ryan Merrill of Sallisaw, Whitney Taylor of Wichita, Kan., Regan Merrill and Hayden Merrill of Charlotte; and one great-great-grandchild, Molly Nicole Merrill of Arkadelphia.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Josephine Spence and six brothers, Mirl, August, Alvis, Brad, Joe and Charley Edwards.
Pallbearers are Grant Merrill, Ryan Merrill, Eddie Armer, Bill Rogers, Ernest Edwards, Jr., and James Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers are Doyle Armer, Vernon Edwards, Don Edwards, Hester Green, Cas Edwards, Harold Campbell, Bud Kitchens, Earby Edwards, Coy Lovell and Charles McGowan
