Richard T. Godfrey Sr.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.--Richard Thomas Godfrey Sr., 65, of 605 Cedar St., a native of Elizabeth City, died Thursday in a hospital.

Mr. Godfrey had worked as a painter at the Little Creek Amphibious Base. He was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah Lane Godfrey; three daughters, Mrs. George Sawyer of Edenton, N.C., Mrs. Joe Saunders of Elizabeth City and Mrs. Larry F. Harrell of New Bern, N.C.; two sons, Richard T. Godfrey Jr. of Elizabeth City and David M. Godfrey of Chesapeake; a sister, Winnie Parker of Elizabeth City; three brothers, L.A. Godfrey and Belmert Godfrey, both of Elizabeth City, and Otis Godfrey of Washington, DC [correction--Washington, NC]; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at noon Saturday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel by Major Arnold Williford. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at 1716 Crescent Drive, Elizabeth City.

While his marker lists him as being born in 1919 his Social Security Death Index lists his date of birth as 28 Dec 1917.
