21 years was so long to wait to be with the love of his life. Daddy passed away 21 years to the day after mother.

Son of Harley Martin and Bessie Leona (Rush) Rhodes. Brother to Rebecca Evelyn (Reba), William Mac Donald (Don) and Claude Albert. Daddy was a member of the 40th Combat Army Engineers unit during WWII and was a Wichita (Kansas) police officer for 22 years. While working on the police force he also worked part time at the local drive-in theater and Shakey's Pizza. After retirement he turned his skills to St. Francis Regional Medical Center (where he was known as the King of backrubs) as a Bio Medical Tech. He said that was a real fancy name for a "fix it man". He was a wonderful craftsman and could make or fix just about anything. Each of his children (and many of his grandchildren) have beautiful handmade grandfather clocks and many other finely crafted wood pieces that will be passed down for generations to come. He also had a wickedly wonderful sence of humor and was know for practical jokes. On April 19, 2006 daddy was in an auto accident. He was hit broadside at the drivers door of his pick up; he then spun head first into a tree. The initial injuries were broken ribs, a nicked spleen and a bruised liver. He did recover somewhat from these injuries, but other things started to go down hill for him because of the shock to his body and his age. He would have minor set backs and then get a little better. We were never able to bring him home from the hospital. We all thought he was getting better, but he knew what day it was and decided it was time to join our mother. We are thankful for the time we got to spend with him and that he was not in any great pain. He leaves behind 1 son, 6 daughters and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and 23 (and counting) great grandchildren. And a host of friends that span many generations. He was truly our HERO!
