Olen Garrett Weishuhn, loving spouse, father, Popo, and friend, went to be with the Lord at age 79 on October 7, 2011. Olen was born November 28, 1931 in Frelsburg, Texas to Jesse and Katherine (Braden) Weishuhn. In 1945, his family relocated to Wall, TX where he dedicated his life to his family, farming, and ranching. On November 17, 1954 he married the love of his life, Merline Michalewicz Weishuhn, in Olfen, TX, and they spent 57 beautiful years together, raising 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and one great grandson. He was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall, and was a member of Knights of Columbus. Some of Olen's greatest joys in life were traveling to support his children and grandchildren in sporting events, dancing, spending mornings at the cotton gin with friends, and fishing every chance he could get. He will always be remembered for his jolly smile, the way he loved his family and friends, and his ability to make each and every person feel welcome as a part of his life. Olen was a man that lived life with zest and dedication until the end; this was evident through his receiving of the 2011 San Angelo Area Conservation Farmer of the Year.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Katherine Weishuhn, brother James Weishuhn, sister Dewees Poulson and her husband John, mother and father-in-law Andrew and Louise Michalewicz, his in-laws Bernie Michalewicz, Donnie and Loretta Michalewicz, Warren Michalewicz, Walter and Herbert Jacob.
Survivors include his loving wife Merline Weishuhn of Wall; daughter Lisa Weishuhn Edwards and husband David of Del Rio; sons Darryl Weishuhn and wife Carolyn, Clayton Weishuhn and wife Diane, Karl Weishuhn and wife Charlotte all of Wall, and Doyle Weishuhn and wife Michele of Seminole; 14 grandchildren Jacob, Marty, and Zachary Weishuhn, Katelyn Edwards and fiancé Chris Nicholson, and Will Edwards, Dr. Brandi Loomis and husband Evan, Shannon Eggemeyer and husband Curtis, and Lauren Weishuhn, Trey Weishuhn and wife Ashlee, Slade Weishuhn and wife Brieanna, Chase, and Paige Weishuhn, Hunter, and McKaylee Weishuhn, great grandchild Lane Whitesell and soon to be Jackson Douglas Weishuhn; brother Presley Weishuhn and wife Ethel of Eola, sister-in-law Jerline Weishuhn of San Angelo and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving in-laws include; Margie Jacob, Evelyn Jacob, Wilma and Cecil Halfmann, Sherline and Daniel Strube, Porky and Kenneth Hoelscher, Beatrice Michalewicz, and Sandra Michalewicz.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Trey, Slade, Chase Weishuhn, Will Edwards, Hunter Weishuhn, Jacob, Marty, and Zachary Weishuhn, and great-grandson Lane Whitesell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rod and Ryan Born, Brian May, Lloyd Whitehead, Bob Poulson, Roger Strube, Jose Gutierrez, Bill Johnston, and his special hunting and fishing buddies.
Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, October 9th at Johnson's Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 10th in St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Ambrose Cemetery in Wall.
