Entered into rest in this city Tuesday May 19, 1942, Leitha Myrna Kiser, beloved wife of William M. Von Winkle of 1035 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden in her 42 year.
Funeral services will be held at Seydel Brothers Funeral Home, 1303-06 Chapel Street, corner Gill Street, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Friends are invited to attend. Services at R.J. McAllister Funeral Home, Bradford, PA, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Von Winkle Rite To Be Saturday
Former Principal of Fourth Ward School Dies in Connecticut

Funeral services for Mrs. Leitha Kiser Von Winkle former principal of the Fourth Ward School of this city, who died yesterday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock at her home in New Haven, Conn., after a brief illness, will be held here Saturday.
Services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the McAllister Funeral Home.
Mrs. Von Winkle was called here recently due to the illness of her mother, Mrs. D. D. Kiser of Jerome Road, and was taken ill while in Bradford. She returned to her home in New Haven May 10 and had been ill since. Her father and brother Ray Kiser, also of this city, left Sunday for New Haven.
Resigned in 1940.
Mrs. Von Winkle, who resigned her position as Fourth Ward school principal in 1940, was well-known in Bradford and respected as an excellent teacher among the faculty of the Bradford schools.
Born in Clarion County, PA, she and been a resident of Bradford since 1921, at which time she joined the Bradford City school faculty as a teacher in the Third Ward school. Prior to that time, she had been a teacher in the McKean county schools.
Taught Special Class
She later joined the faculty of the Fourth Ward school and for five and held years served as principal of that school before her resignation last year.
Possessing outstanding and varied qualifications as a teacher, Mrs. Von Winkle for three years conducted a class in special education for girls.
She was united in marriage to William Von Winkle on December 26, 1940, and moved to New Haven to reside.
Surviving her, in addition to her husband, are two step-children, Lois and Billy, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Kiser of Jerome Avenue, this city; a grandmother, Mrs. J. E. Knapenberger of Limestone, NY and several aunts and uncles.
The body will arrive here Friday morning at 7 o'clock.

VON WINKLE RITE HELD SATURDAY
Funeral For Former Local Teacher Largely Attended; Dies Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Leitha Kiser Von Winkle of New Haven, Conn, a former well-known local teacher, who died at her New Haven home Tuesday, were held her Saturday afternoon and services were Saturday afternoon and services were largely attended by her many friends. She was former principal of the local Fourth Ward School
Services were conducted at the McAllister Funeral Home at 2 o'clock and burial was in the family plot in Oak Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Von Winkle, who left Bradford following her marriage to William Von Winkle in 1940, had been ill only a short time. She died on Tuesday afternoon at her home in New Haven.
Officiating at the services Saturday were the Rev. Homer E. Evans, of Pottville, NY, former pastor of the Ashbury Methodist Church and the Rev. William Partington, Asbury Methodist pastor.
Bearers were Gilbert Perkins, Guy Hughey, Ferman Shoup, Clarence Johnston, Howard Double and William Vernon.
Teachers in the Bradford schools who acted as honorary bearers were:

"With the passing of Mrs. Leitha Kiser Von Winkle, this community as well as her new home community had suffered a tremendous loss."
"The rich, full life which she lived in service to others, has endeared her to students, parents, and co-workers, as well as to her husband and children in New Haven and to her family in this city."
"The wide circle of friends who have worked with her in school social, civic and defense organizations share the loss with the members of her immediate family."
"Her optimistic outlook on life was a constant inspiration to all who came in contact with her. A never-failing kindness and consideration for others formed the keystone of a nature which put family and friends before consideration of self.
"These characteristics were exemplified in her professional life. As a classroom teacher she developed the finest type of pupil=teacher and parent relationships."
"As a building principal she established a fine type of community spirit and splendid cooperation among her teachers."
"In the comparatively short time spent in her new environment she had endured her new environment she had endured herself to a great number of new friends who regret her passing as sincerely as do her friends in Bradford. She possessed a personality that will long remain in the memory of those who knew her, to inspire the finest type of unselfish service."
