John Allen Adams was born August 6, 1944 in Kosciusko, Ms. He was the second eldest of five children born to the late George and Ruthie Adams.
John attended and graduated from Tipton High School in 1964, in Kosciusko, MS. He also attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Al.
John accepted Christ at the early age as his personal savior. After moving to Cleveland Oh., he united with New Home Missionary Baptist Church. He became trustee and later was ordained as a deacon and he served faithful until his death.
While playing football at Alabama State University he met the love of his life. Later he was united in holy matrimony on May 31, 1969 to Miss Lula Pittman after her graduation from Mississippi Valley State University.
After Marriage he moved to Cleveland OH. He became a professional truck driver and worked with his brother. He later became an owner operator and began his own trucking company, Adams Trucking, in 1970. He worked diligently alongside his wife for over 35 years in the family business. When his sons grew up he taught them the trucking business. He hired anyone in need. He truly enjoyed his trucking career. He never met a stranger and was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
He would strike up a humorous conversation with everyone he met. He gave everyone he met a clever "nickname" befitting them. He had a strong work ethic which was important to him, because he wanted to set a good example for his children. He spent quality time with his family and friends telling humorous stories and funny jokes about his upbringing during his school days and his fun times on the football field.
He loved sports and even coached little league basketball and flag football for several years in Solon, where his sons played. He won many games including one championship with his boys. He also enjoyed many Saturday night dances with his loving wife. He loved traveling with his family and visiting with friends. As he semi-retired he loved spending quality time with his eight grandchildren.
Among the many things that he taught was tough love, responsibility and being a good provider. For these many things we are all eternally grateful for having such a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin and friends.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving and devoted wife, Lula, one daughter, Danetta Adams Leonard (Brett) of Douglasville, Ga., and three sons, David Adams of Cleveland Oh., Dale Adams Sr., (Tya) of Solon, Oh., and Derrick Adams of Beaver Creek. Eight grandchildren: Cortez, Steven, Dale Jr., Machayla, Reece, Noah, Xavier and Zion. Two great-grandchildren: Courtney and Cortez Jr., Preceded in death were one brother in-law Thomas Owens, one brother and sister, George T. Adams Jr. and Brenda Adams. He also leaves two sister, Vivian Owens of Mayfield Hts., Oh., Maxine Mallet(Rev. Jessie) of Kosciusko, Ms., and two sister in-laws, Allie V.
