FORSYTH, MT. ---- Birger Aasland, 83, a former mayor of Forsyth, died at the Rosebud Community Nursing Home Saturday morning.

He was born Oct. 25, 1892 in Time County, Norway, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Aasland.

He came to Glendive in 1911 and moved to Ingomar, MT., in 1912 where he ranched until 1930.

He operated a transfer until 1959 and the Post Office Newsstand until 1969.

For the past four years he had lived in the nursing home.

In addition to being a former mayor, he was also a former city councilman and was a member of the Federated Church, Lions Club, Hiram Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Allenby Commandry, and several other Masonic Organizations., all of Forsyth.

He was also a member of Al Bedoo Shrine Temple of Billings and the Forsyth Shrine Club.

Survivors include a son, Bruce of Forsyth, a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Matson of Sun City, AR., two grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beals Mortuary, The Rev. Norman Austin of the Federated Church officiating.

Burial with Masonic Services will be in the Forsyth Cemetery, Forsyth, MT.
