Edward was the son of Jurd Lee Thomas and Juretta Smith Thomas. Eddie's maternal grandparents were George Franklin Smith and Isora Inez Russell Smith. He was an active member and deacon of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Eddie was a teacher and coach at Choudrant High School. He was also the founder of the tennis team at Choudrant High School.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Jurd Lee Smith. He is survied by his wife and four sons; mother, brother and sister; nieces, nephews and friends.
