George Tipton, aged 82 years, father of Dr. E. W. Tipton, of Kingsport, died suddenly at his home on Horse Creek, seven miles south-east of Kingsport, at noon Wednesday. He was an old Confederate soldier and one of the most prominent and highly respected citizens in this section of the country.

Funeral services were conducted from the Glenaltin church, near the home, at ten o'clock this morning by Rev. J. L. McMillan, of Johnson City. The services were followed by interment in the Bachman cemetary.

Mr. Tipton was born at Blountville in 1841. He was a son of William Tipton and Rarsha(sic) Masengill Tipton, and was a brother-in-law of the late N. C. Bachman. He was a farmer and had made his home on Horse Creek for about 45 years. He was a member of Company "G", 19th Tennessee regiment, during the Civil War.

The pall-bearers at the funeral were as follows: J. Fred Johnson, A. D. Brockman, W. R. Jennings, W. E. Hufford, Ed Nelms, and W. D. Neal. Honorary pall-bearers were: Elija Barnes, J. H. Haws, W. M. Backman, Dr. R. K. Bailey, J. F. Childers, William Roller, David Roller, and J. W. Davis. Flower bearers were: Walker Nelms, J. W. Harrison, Dr. O. S. Hauk, J. B. Nall, C. E. Brookds, F. E. Mahan, W. J. Hunter, W. M. Bennett and C. P. Edwards.
