Human rights activist. One of the silent partners in the suffragist movement behind her sister Susan B. Anthony (qv), she acted as secretary, business organizer, wardrobe mistress and housekeeper to her famous sister. At her 70th birthday party, Susan was quoted as saying "I cannot tell how she has helped and sustained me... without Mary my work would have been impossible".
