William Earl Quick (1931 - 2011)


William Earl Quick, 79, of Marissa, Ill., born Dec. 26, 1931, in Eldorado, Ill.; passed away on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, Ill.

Mr. Quick was a United States Navy veteran serving in the Korean War as a 3rd class petty officer aviation electronics technician. He received the National Defense Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Ribbon (one star); Air Medal.

Mr. Quick was the principal of the Marissa Elementary School for 20 years. He was the owner and operator of Quick Services LTD in Marissa, Ill. He was a member of the First United Methodist in Marissa, Ill. Mr. Quick was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kaskaskia Water District. In the past he had served as commander and finance officer of the Robert F. Arnold American Legion Post 172; finance secretary of the Marissa Recreation Area; member of the Southern Illinois Seniors Golf Association; vice-president of the Marissa Lions Club; member of the Illinois Principals Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Marshall and Elizabeth, nee McClelland, Quick; two brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Sue Ellen, nee Gray, Quick, whom he married on May 12, 1961 in Downey, Calif.; daughter, Beth Quick-Agnew of Bloomington, Ill.; granddaughter, Stephanie Agnew of Bloomington, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Marissa First Responders or First United Methodist Youth Camp Scholarship.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21,2011, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, Ill.



Funeral: Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, Ill.
