Edmond Howard "Ned" Abbott, 84, of Roanoke, and formerly of Stewartsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. He was with the Navy SEABEES in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a longtime member of Waverly Place Baptist Church and retired from GE in Salem after many years of service. Ned loved horses and had a small farm in Bedford County.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Abbott; a sister, Connie Arrington; and a son, Lynn Abbott.
Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Ramona C. (Peggy) Abbott; his children, Cathy Showalter, Kynn Abbott and wife, Jeanne, and Martha Minnix and husband, Dwayne (Arnold); three grandchildren, Patrick Showalter, Megan Abbott, and Nathan Abbott; and two great-grandchildren, Kaelan and Madelyn. He is also survived by two sisters, Vilus Linkous, and Holly Schickler and husband, Glenn; three brothers, Don Abbott, Linkie Abbott and Bernie Abbott and wife, Fay; a special sister-in-law, Mary Bayse; and many nieces and nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Dr. Wayne Sellers officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Waverly Place Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
