Walter Alvin Mize Jr.
Athens

Walter Alvin Mize Jr., 76, of 117 Wellington Court, Athens, died Saturday, July 8, 2000. A native of Clarke County and formerly of Hartwell, Mr. Mize was a son of the late Walter A. and Jessie C. Seagraves Mize Sr., and was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Mize Lester.

He was employed with Snow Tire Company in Athens for 20 years and was a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran. He was a life member of both the DAV and VFW Post 2872 and was of the Baptist faith.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Ted Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Strickland Mize, Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Wayne Barr, Athens; a sister, Virginia Palmer, Athens; a brother, W.H. Mize, Athens; twogranddaughters, Tere Beale and Genie Beale, both of Athens; and a great-granddaughter, Kristina Beale, Athens.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Armour, Derek Strickland, Brian
Burroughs, Jack Clark, Ronnie Hamby and Walter Conner. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the VFW Post 2872.


The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the
funeral home.

He was during the WWII, sgt in the USAAF and tail-gunner of B-17 (42-39962)shot down near Dieppe 11 February 1944 returning from Frankfurt.
