CHANDLERSVILLE -- Anna Laura Bates, 99, of 5805 Chandlersville Road, formerly of Summerfield, died Monday evening (Sept. 3, 2001) at her home.

She was born Sept. 11, 1901, in Malaga to Charles and Mattie Roe Eschbugh. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Bates Hill Church of Christ near Summerfield.

She is survived by four daughters, Olive Starr of Chandlersville, Margaret Ewing of Wooster, Martha Carpenter of West Lafayette and Bonnie McElfresh of Summerfield; one son, Byron Bates of Summerfield; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard McKinley Bates, in 1937; two sons, Harry and John Bates; her parents; three sisters, Hazel Powell, Isabelle Brownfield and Ida Carpenter; two brothers, Clarence Eschbugh and Carlos Eschbugh; one grandson, Larry Carpenter; and two great-granddaughters.

Services are at 11 A.M. Friday at Old Bates Hill Church of Christ with Frank Love officiating. Friends will be received from 5 to 9 P.M. Thursday at Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, 202 Main St., Summerfield. Friends then received for one hour prior to the service Friday at Old Bates Hill Church of Christ. Burial is in Bates Hill Cemetery near Summerfield
