He went to High School and Dropped out when the Vietnam War started. He enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corp and went to boot camp at Paris Island. He served over in Vietnam and made it to the rank of Lance Corporal. He decided to stay longer and was killed in action on May 26, 1966 at the age of 20.
He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal and they went to his adopted parents Paul Ludwig Heath and Valera M. Philips. He had an adopted brother Barry Ludwig Heath that was in the U.S. Navy at the time he was killed in Vietnam.
His body was buried with full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery. And he has been listed on the Wall that honors all those who were killed in action during the Vietnam War as well.
