William Mielke passed away on Sunday afternoon, March 5th at the home of his daughter in Minneapolis. He had attained the age of 78 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at two o'clock in the St. Mark's Lutheran church. Rev. Rolf conducted the services in both German and English. Internment was in the St. Mark's Lutheran cemetery.
Mr. Mielke was born August 27, 1860 at Suelzdorf, Arnswalde, Germany, the only son of Frederic Mielke and wife Fredlericka Schwandt. He immigrated from Germany December 13, 1876 and landed at New York December 31st. From there he went to Cologne and remained there until 1880 when he and his family moved to a farm in Camden township, Carver county.
He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Zabel of Benton township on April 7, 1877. This union was blessed with five sons and six daughters. One son died in infancy and Dorothyea (Mrs. Fred Gruenhagen of Bertha passed away two years ago.) His wife died July 27, 1919.
He leaves to mourn his death, four sons and five daughter. August of Lyndale; William of New Germany; Fred and Oscar of Minneapolis; (Emma) Mrs. Ferdinand Schwalbe, (Mary) Mr. John Prehn of Minneapolis, (Elizabeth) Mrs. John Holmberg of Watertown, (Gusta) Mrs A. D. Daily of Excelsior, and (Lena) Mrs. Ben Rother of New Germany.
31 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends. Pallbearers were: Otto Schoenke, William Unglaub, William Menth, Fred Kohls, Albert Goede and William Wendorf.
