He was born May 5, 1932, in Chicago, to Anton and Octavia (Verhelle) Weyland. On April 19, 1952, he married Rita Ann Conway at St. Patrick's Church in McHenry.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant. William was raised in Chicago and spent summers in the 1950s on Griswold Lake, where he met his beautiful wife, Rita. He was employed as a machinist with Nu-Metal Products Inc. in Crystal Lake.
He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling and travel. Most importantly, he loved to spend time with his family. He was a member of the McHenry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 and American Legion Post 491. He will be remembered fondly for his sense of humor and patience. He was a true gentleman.
Survivors include his four children, William H. (Gina) Weyland Jr. of McHenry, Kristi Ann (Jim) Finnan of Rockford, John (Shari) Weyland of Marengo and Joe Weyland of McHenry; eight grandchildren, Donovan (Mika) Weyland, Sarah (Jeff) Jacobs, Carla (Joe) Simons and Andrea Finnan, Katrina and Cassie Weyland, Bud Finnan, Molly Weyland; three great-grandchildren, Walker, Aiden and Ella; his mother-in-law, Lillian Braidwood of Woodstock; a brother-in-law, Dennis (Janet) Conway of McHenry; four sisters-in-law, Judith Svalander, Jean Weyland, Francene Weyland and Sharon Conway; and a special friend, Helen Golbeck.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Ann, on Aug. 23, 2008; a grandson, Johnny Weyland; his parents; Harold (the late Elizabeth) Weyland, Anthony "Bud" (the late Mary) Weyland, Vincent Weyland and Russel Weyland; and an infant sister, Margaret.
The visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. The visitation continues from 8:30 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the funeral home. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington St., McHenry. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Churchyard Cemetery, McHenry.
