Lewis A. Dubbs
Birth: 29 AUG 1818 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
Death: 21 AUG 1903 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
Burial: Dubbs Family Cemetery, Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA.

Father: Frederick Dubbs b: 1761 in Lebanon, Lancaster Co., PA. Son of Hans Jacob Dups, an emigrant from Switzerland in 1736. Frederick began using the Americanized spelling "Dubbs." Hans married Rebecca Weinrich, probably after he arrived in Pennsylvania. (The Dups' native tongue was German.)
Mother: Catherine Snyder, b. Either in 1773, 1775, or 1778, in Switzerland. Daughter of Conrad Snyder (1736-1827) & Nancy Joakim (1726?-1803). The Snyder's native tongue was German. They may have also spoken French.

Frederick Dubbs & Catherine Snyder married in 1792.

Married: Agnes Zilla Walker b: 24 AUG 1823 in Burnt Cabins, Bedford (now Fulton) Co., PA
Married: 22 SEP 1841

Children
1. Howard John Dubbs b: 24 JUN 1844 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
2. Albert Moses Dubbs b: 24 FEB 1846 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
3. Isaac F. Dubbs b: 7 JUL 1848 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
4. Elizabeth Dubbs b: 1849 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
5. Emma W. Dubbs b: 15 OCT 1850 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
6. Clara Louisa Dubbs b: 28 MAY 1852 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
7. William Orville Dubbs b: 28 AUG 1854 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
8. Almina 'Minnie' Dubbs b: 2 DEC 1856 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
9. Nora Viola Dubbs b: 23 JUN 1859 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
10. Samuel Elmer Dubbs b: 15 MAR 1863 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA
11. Lillie Adella Dubbs b: 22 NOV 1866 in Burnt Cabins, Fulton Co., PA

There is somewhat of a discrepancy concerning the number of children born to Lewis & Agnes. The Dubbs family records that were handed down to Ray Petty, a direct descendant of Lewis & Agnes, indicated that the only children that they had were the ones listed above, minus Elizabeth, for which there is no mention. Information from from Find A Grave contributor Zoe Tom (contributor #47000374) however, does list her being born in 1849. To add to the discrepancy, the obituary for the youngest child, Lillian Adella (Dubbs) Traver, from 1956, states that Lillian was the youngest and last survivor of fourteen children born to Lewis & Agnes. Given that the obituary is correct, it remains a mystery as to the names of the other children. It would seem likely that if they were not listed in several of the family's written records that they may possibly have died at birth or in infancy.

Lewis was the youngest child born to Frederick & Catherine Dubbs. He was 25 years younger than his oldest sibling. Family records indicate that there were at least fourteen children, all of which were born in Burnt Cabins. This is a list of Lewis' known siblings:

1. John Dubbs, b. July 24, 1793, d. unknown. (Per Family Search he was born 7-4-1793 and he married Dedley Magness on 1-23-1820. He married Celia M. Smith on 10-22-1856).
2. A son (according to some records) that was a twin brother to John that died in infancy. The brothers name is unknown.
3. Henry Dubbs, b. Sept. 26, 1795, d. Mar. 17, 1851. Married Eleanor Fitzsimmons (1796-1838).
4. Julia Ann Dubbs, b. abt. 1796, d. abt. 1796 (died in infancy.
5. Frederick Dubbs Jr., b. Mar. 5, 1797, d. unknown. Married Isabel Jamison (1793-1876). (Isabel was Agnes Walker-Dubbs' maternal aunt).
6. William Dubbs, b. Mar. 5, 1799, d. Aug. 22, 1881. Married Jane Kamp (1797-1882).
7. Sarah (Dubbs) Long, b. Oct. 27, 1800, d. 1825. Married David Long.
8. Isaac Dubbs, b. Mar. 4, 1803, d. Aug 12, 1848. Married Alice Walker (Alice was the oldest sibling of Agnes Walker-Dubbs who was Lewis' wife).
9. Moses Dubbs, b. Dec. 13, 1804, d. 1879. Married Eliza "Liza" Regan, born in 1808. Eliza was probably the daughter of John Regan & Margaret Baer-Regan who hailed from Franklin County, Pennsylvania. John & Margaret had another daughter, Sarah Regan-Hommon, 1812-1892, and her daughter, Hannah "Sibbie" (Hommon) married Howard Dubbs in 1868. Howard was Lewis Dubbs' oldest son.
10. Elizabeth E. (Dubbs) Long, b. Dec. 17, 1806, d. Nov. 15, 1832. Married Samuel "Sam" Long.
11. Samuel Dubbs, b. Jan. 30, 1809, d. Sep. 30, 1891. Married Hepzibah McDonald (b. 1819, d. 1855).
12. Elias Dubbs, b. Nov. 29, 1813, d. 1874. Married Sarah Campbell (1832-1890).
13. Roseann, or Rose Ann (Dubbs) McElheny, b. Apr. 19, 1816, d. March 27, 1881. Married James S. McElheny.

As stated above, Lewis died in 1903 in Kansas. He was the last surviving member of his birth family and the only family member to live into the 20th century. Agnes had died several years earlier in 1891 while they were back visiting family in Burnt Cabins. She died very suddenly and was subsequently buried there in the Dubbs family cemetery behind the old Dubbs house and tavern in Burnt Cabins (which still stands today, as of 2023). According to family records the tavern house was built by Lewis' father 213 years earlier in 1810. (See the photos section of this memorial page to view the photos of the tavern house).

After Agnes' death, Lewis returned to Kansas & lived the remainder of his years with his children there. When he died, his children fulfilled his wishes to be returned to Burnt Cabins to be buried. Most all of his surviving family accompanied his body on the week-long train ride back to Burnt Cabins to be buried beside Agnes.
