Daughter of Ira William and Sina Blanche (Elam) Franks.
She attended Rock Creek Rural School for 8 years, was a graduate of the Ethel High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. Her teaching career began at Keytesville in 1949 and included Wright City, St. Peters, Palmyra, and concluded at Excelsior Sorings. She also taught at rural schools in Macon County. She was a member of the DAR and Retired Teachers Association. In early adulthood, she became a member of the Presbyterian Church and in later years when she returned to the Elmer community she attended the Elmer Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian who had great concern for others, visiting nursing homes on a regular basis and devoted herself to the care of her mother while she was still living.
