During World War II, he was a sergeant in the US Army. He was a lifelong member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church, where he and Doris are buried. He was licensed as a local pastor and served small United Methodist Churches on occasion.
Jim was survived by two daughters, Anne McKay Odom of Tuscaloosa and Jane McKay Spooner of Guin. He was also survived by two Sons, James S. McKay Jr. of Culowhee, NC and David E. McKay of Jacksonville, FL. He left 7 grandchildren, Merry Spooner Kuchle, April Odom Hargraves, Dallas McKay, James Odom, Miranda McKay, Patric Spooner and Victoria Spooner.
His relatives remember him as a solid, simple, steady, and compassionate person who loved Christ and his church.
