Tarkington..Neal Tarkington went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2008. He was born March 23, 1965,in Jacksonville, Florida. Neal had over 20 years as a Firefighter and was an Engineer on Ladder 4.
He is survived by his loving wife Debbie; his loving sons, Neal Joseph Tarkington, Mike (Katie)Payne and Chris (Jessica) Payne and precious grandson, Ethan Payne; his parents, Eunice and Charles Haspel of Hilliard, Florida and Otis and Aileen Tarkington of Tennessee; his brother, Bryan (Tina) Tarkington and his nephews, Bradley and Evan also of Tennessee; and brothers, Dennis (Carolyn), Robert (Gail) and Billy (Kathy) Tarkington and their families. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bob and Sylvia Raulerson and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him very much.
Neal was friend to all who knew him. He had a beautiful smile, a big heart and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed him. He loved telling stories, jokes and making people laugh. He was a great cook and loved to travel. Neal was a dedicated family man and truly did love saving lives and fighting fires.
Viewing will be Wednesday, October 15 from 6-8 pm at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave., Jacksonville, Florida 32208.
Funeral services will be held at River Road Baptist Church, 21067 CR 12, Hilliard, Florida on Thursday, October 16 at 1 pm., with Rev. Fred Norman, officiating. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery, Hilliard, Florida.

∼Neal Tarkington died at the age of 43, in the line of duty. Coming home from a busy shift at Station # 4, he died of a Heart Attack. He was a Firefighter for more than 20 years. He started his career at the Jacksonville International Airport where he was Aircraft Rescue. The remainder of his career was with Jacksonville Fire Rescue. There he was an Engineer on the Ladder Truck, and part of the Special Ops Team. He graduated from High School in Sevierville, Tennessee.
He is survived by: His wife of 19 years, Debbie Tarkington, Three Sons-Neal Tarkington, Mike Tarkington, and Chris Tarkington, a grandson Ethan Tarkington, his mother Eunice Haspel, a Stepfather Charles Haspel, his father Otis Tarkington, a Stepmother Aileen Tarkington, Four Brothers-Bryan Tarkington, Dennis Tarkington, Robert Tarkington, and Billy Tarkington. His brother Robert is also a Firefighter, along with a Brother-Inlaw and Nephew.
