Edmond is the son of William A. and Martha Abernathy. He married Mary Ann Matthews, daughter of Zachariah Hilliard Matthews and Sleter Rackley on 1 Dec. 1868 in Nash County, NC. After the death of Mary Ann, hemarried Sarah Jane Cockrell, daughter of Elisha Henry Cockrell and Sallie Vick on 12 Jan 1871 in Nash County, NC. This is a memorial to Edmond. His grave site at Lee Bone's Pond has been plowed over.
