LEE ROY HARBISON
WESLACO - Lee Roy Harbison, beloved husband , father and grandfather passed away peacefully Sunday morning, May 23, 2010, surrounded by his family.
Lee Roy was born in Olney, Texas to Lee Roy Harbison Sr, and Lessie Irhene Burch on February 14, 1925. He volunteered and served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Nevada . He saw action in Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific.
He came to Hidalgo County and married Margaret Eoff Harbison on April 28, 1947.
He was well known as a farmer and rancher and in his later life , volunteered at the Baptist Home Mission Board as a Mission Service Corp Volunteer. He had retired to the Seguin/Beeville area and had recently returned to Weslaco, Texas. He was very proud of his five children , 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years , Margaret.
He is also survived by children Jim (Marylin) from Utopia, Tx; John (Cathy) from Weslaco,Tx; and Randy (Janet) from Sandia, Tx Vicky Whittle from Beeville,Tx; Rick (Evon) from Weslaco,Tx; Brothers: Glenn of Kilgore,Tx; Don of Bishop ,Tx. Sisters: Billie Willis of Kerrville, Tx and Betty Pate of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be held today Tuesday May 25, 2010 from 4 p.m to 8 p.m with family receiving friends from 5-6 . Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday May 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco with longtime family friend Rev. Homer Hanna, retired Baptist minister of Beeville,Tx , officiating.
Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco,Tx. Military Graveside rites to be conducted by Mid Valley Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Shane Harbison, Lucas Harbison, John Brandon Harbison, Blaine Ferris, Shannon Kellner, Adam Williams, Aarn Ballew, David Jones, Jeff Brolowski and Ross Harbison.
Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
