Edward was the son of John August (Goeldner - he changed the spelling) Goldner and Mary Mariam Bennett Goldner.
His father was born in Germany, immigrated to the United States in 1858, settled and grew up in Clear Creek Township in Keokuk County. His mother was born in Ohio. As a young adult, John farmed near his father and brothers in Keokuk County, was married to Mary Bennett in 1880 and moved to Adams County, Iowa. That's when he changed the spelling of the last name according to family stories.
Edward was the third of seven children born to John and Mary: Minnie Mahala, Caroline Mae, Edward Randolph, Laura Belle, Nellie Alta, Elmer Martin and Albert Leslie.
Edward married Mary E. Stevens.
They had one son in 1911 who lived from January 3 to January 5. They were also the parents of Glen R Goldner (1915-2005) and Veda Dell Goldner (1920-1997).
