John married Orilla STEPHENSON Jan. 29, 1871, in Monroe, Ohio. Monroe no longer exists; it was in Jackson County. (John died on his wedding anniversary.)
John grew up in Ohio. He made charcoal at one of the furnaces there. When the furnaces shut down, he moved his family to Missouri. John always thought some place else had greener pastures (per his granddaughter, Ivy).
There are several incorrect items on John's death certificate. It says information was supplied by Mrs. Orilla Ingalls. Since she was on her death bed, that is highly unlikely. It also says the burial date for John was 31 Jan 1916. This is not correct because his body was held over until Orilla died on 4 Feb and they had a double funeral on 6 Feb.
