Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 96 years. Son of the late George and Mary (Gergel) Sizick, John was born July 3, 1915 in Crosswell, Michigan. He was married to Leona Waligorski on May 22, 1938. She predeceased him January 3, 1978. John enjoyed his next 32 years with Lillian (Kelly) Kessler, whom he married May 5, 1979. She survives him. John was employed by General Motors as a watchman, retiring in 1974. He was also employed at Gottschalk Coal Company and Saginaw Medical Supply Company. John was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, its men's club and oldest surviving alumnus of its school. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4232. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, horseshoes, reading, Euchre, Scrabble and Boggle. John endeared himself to many friends, co-workers, Dominican Sisters and family through humor and a kind, cheerful spirit. He had a repertoire of funny sayings, stories and songs that he shared widely. Left to cherish his memory besides his wife Lillian are two daughters, Johanna with "kickside" Connie, Janette and Raymond Kostick; the Kessler sons, Ronald and Elizabeth, Larry, Ted and Susan; four Kostick grandsons, Steven, David, Raymond and Robert and their families; the Sizick grandchildren, Brian, Chris and Lynne Marie and their families; the Kessler grandchildren, David, Dan and their families, Justin, Kara, Lauren, Julia, and their families; his sister-in-law, Theresa May; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Barbara Jean; his son, James Sizick, and his wife, Irene; two sisters, Mary Lapinsky and Helen Novak; his brothers, Michael and George. Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty) where the family will be present on Sunday 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service, led by Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak, will take place 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Cartwright Hospice Residence.
