Memorial Services Held For Pfc. Carl Ippolito
Memorial services for Pfc. Carl Ippolito, 19, were held in St. Agnes church Wednesday morning.
Pfc. Carl Ippolito was first reported missing in action in Germany on March 13 according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ippolito, Sr. He was with the Army infantry and had been overseas since January, 1945. He joined the service in August, 1944.
It has since been learned he was killed in the vicinity of Remagen, Germany and is buried in Eastern Belgium. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal posthumously, which has been sent to his mother.
He was graduated from Avon Central School in 1944 as salutatorian. He was prominent in school activities and was treasurer of his senior class. He was a member of the Press Club, Dramatic Club and Glee Club. He was a member of St. Agnes Church.
His brother, Pfc. Amos Ippolito, 21, is in France with the Anti-Aircraft unit of the Coast Artillery. He has been overseas 16 months.
Besides his parents and brother, Amos, he is survived by three sisters, Miss Mary Ippolito, Mrs. Rose D'Angelo and Miss Frances Ippolito, all of Avon, and another brother Thomas of Avon.
