Daniel Cecil Bird , Senior
Daniel Cecil Bird Sr., 73 of Monroe, passed away August 19, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Deanna Dunford Bird.
Born August 3, 1938, in Garfield, Kansas, he was a son of the late Cecil Hershel Bird and Demuth Carpenter Bird Huck. He is survived by his step-father, Elmer Huck, of Texas. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Harris.
Mr. Bird was raised in Wichita, Kansas, until the age of twenty, when he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam and retired after 20 years of service. He then went to work in Federal law enforcement, a job he loved, and retired after 20 years. Mr. Bird was a member of Elon Baptist Church. He enjoyed painting watercolors, playing the piano, and sports.
Survivors also include his daughter, Laura Lee Jones, of Eagle River, Alaska; his son, Daniel Cecil Bird Jr. and wife Dawn, of Springfield, VA; his brother, Richard A. Bird and wife Judy, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; a sister, Carolyn E. Martinez and husband Steve, of Redmond, Oregon; two grandsons, James E. Jones II, and Jacob D. Jones, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family received friends from 1-2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Elon Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation at Elon Baptist Church, by the Rev. Steve Tyree. Interment will follow in Elon Baptist church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Elon Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the medical care givers for the care and support given to Mr. Bird and the family during his hospitalizations.
