COOKEVILLE Funeral services for U.L. Hensley, 90, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today,
Friday, Jan. 15, at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Mr. Hensley
died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Jackson County to the late Lee Kuykendall and Frances Pippin Hensley. Mr. Hensley was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. He was a member of Cookeville Masonic Lodge 266 F&AM for more than 54 years. He was also active with and a member of Cookeville York Rites and Al Menah Shrine Temple in Nashville for more than 50 years. Mr. Hensley served in the Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 46 and VFW Post 6296.
He began his professional career working at Automotive Parts Company Inc. in Cookeville. He eventually became owner and operated the business for more than 60 years. He also held ownership in several auto parts stores across Tennessee prior to retirement.
His family includes his wife of 25 years, Betty Sue Jenkins Rodgers Hensley of Cookeville (whom he married Oct. 12, 1984, in Cookeville).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louese Peace; a brother, Cecil Hensley; and a nephew, Richard Peace.
