~~~~`` Rocksie's Journey ``~~~~
~ She was so wideopen, she started running around everywhere before she started walking good, "nonstop" snapping and growling at her litter mates on her way through then run and hide to do it again, "she was the smallest one". The highlite of her day was laying in front of the window on her lovebug pillow to sun and in the evening she laid in her own chair surrounded by her toys, oh by the way she would always do a head count on all of her toys to make sure they were all still there, she wouldn't let the other doggies we have play with her stuff, it was hers. Being a Dachshund she was very independent, always wanting to do things on her own, she tried jumping into her chair so long before she finally got it, I was so excited for her when she did. Love Bug slept in the bed with us, she was our boss, she told us when to go to bed, she would walk the hall and wine and bark till we went, nothing else would satisfy her. She loved to go riding, so we would pack up her meds, water, food & bed and off we would go. She had more stuff to take then we did.
~ We noticed Rock's wasn't feeling good, we took her to the Vet and after they run some test they found out she had a liver shunt, we then took her to the specialist, they could not operate on her, she had to stay on the meds that our Vet had put her on originally and a special diet, that she had to stay on for the rest of her life, 3 times a day. Her liver was going into failure and there was nothing they could do to stop it. She would sometimes have to get iv fluids, but she did get to enjoy boneless boiled chicken breast. The Veternarian office I've been going to for 10 years now, they all loved her and would always ask about her every time we went in for her refills or for anything else, she just kept them amazed at her will to live, they did everything they could to keep a check on her to make sure she got everything she needed. They were by her side through it all, and she could make them all tear up. If I would have thought she was suffering I would have done the right thing, but she just didn't let it get her down, with her meds you would have never known anything was wrong, she still ran the house.
~ She started feeling better right after they put her on her meds and continued on her little bossy way, expecting a toy every time someone would leave and come back home and she had to have it in her own little bag and we would lay it on the floor for her and she would go in the bag to get it out all by herself. We all knew our time with her was limited so we didn't mind her being the boss we rather enjoyed and would not have had it any other way and most of the time she got her way except for food. She touched our hearts. She put up a good fight to stay with us, she lost her fight and we lost her.
~ Rocksie passed away 1 week before her 1st Birthday, we had planned on doing something special for her because she had beat the odds so many times before, to celebrate her first year. She was just as much a member of my family as anyone else. It's took me so long it seems to get this memorial ready for her, I'm still so heart broken. I've never seen anybody or anything try so hard to hold on to life the way she did, up to the day before her passing, she went peacefully. I had to pack up all her stuff because I just couldn't look at it, atleast not now, she had two big totes full of stuff.
