Donald O. Davis, 88, of Washington Township, formerly of Grantsville, Md., died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, in West Haven Manor, Washington Township. Born April 10, 1923, in North Apollo, to the late Samuel A.C. and Elizabeth Catherine (Porter) Davis, Mr. Davis lived in Grantsville and Frostburg, Md., for many years. He was a self-employed carpenter building two radio stations, one in Frostburg, Md., WFRB, and WASP in Brownsville. Donald was a veteran of the Army Air Force, serving during World War II. He also attended North Apollo Church of God in North Apollo. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Davis, in 1929, and Leonard Davis, in 2010; and one sister, Arlene Moorhead, in 1994. He is survived by two brothers, Samuel Eugene Davis, of Kiski Township, and Carl (Lawanna) Davis, of Spring Church; three sisters, Lorraine Bales, of Anderson, Ind., Jane Powell, of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Linda Hershberger, of Sacramento, Calif.; as well as 19 nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo, PA 15613. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Shallenberger officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo, where full military honors will be accorded by the Armstrong County Honor Guard.
