Elaine's father, Frank Wheatcroft Frueauff, died when she was just over one years old. Elaine was awarded $1700/month for living expenses from his estate. Her mother returned to her acting career in 1924.

As her mother, Elaine used her mother's maiden name (Perry) for her professional surname. She debuted in 1939 with a stock company in Braddock Heights, Maryland. Her first Broadway appearance was in 1940 as an understudy to Ingrid Bergman in "Liliom". She joined the Lakewood Players in 1941. She appeared in "Glamour Preferred," "No for an Answer" and "The Trojan Women."

With WWII breaking out, Elaine busied herself with the Stage Door Canteen, The American Theater Wing Hospital Committee, and various war bond drives. She was the stage manager of "The Barretts of Wimpole Street" starring Katherine Cornell, as a U.S.O. European production in Florence, Italy. Back in the USA she again was stage manager with the revival of The Barretts on Broadway. She continued as stage manager for The Magnificent Heel.

She produced several plays, including "Touchstone," "Anastasia," "King of Hearts" and "The Late Christopher Bean."

Miss Perry married Captain Herbert Bartlow Stranahan (b. Dec 1, 1919, in Brookline, Norfolk, Massachusetts; d. February 3, 2004, in Hastings and Rother, East Sussex, England) July 13, 1945, in New York, New York. This marriage ended in divorce June 15, 1951, in Gooding County, Idaho. She resumed using her maiden name, Frueauff.

She married Milton Lyon (born Milton Levine February 21, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania d. December 2, 1995, in Princeton, Mercer, New Jersey) May 20, 1959, in Greenwich, Fairfield, Connecticut.

Elaine died on Saturday at her home in Buena Vista, Colorado. She was 64 years, 10 months, and 13 days old. She was survived by her sister, Margaret (Perry) Fanning of Honduras. She was laid to rest next to her Great Uncle Thomas McQuaid, whom seems to have been like a father to her.
