Could this have been Cholera or a similar infectious outbreak in Tuscumbia in 1833-1834-1835.

He was the first doctor on record to offer hospital facilities for the benefit of county residents during a medical crisis. He first came to Franklin, TN in about 1808. It was on May 25, 1818 and right in the midst of a regional outbreak of deadly smallpox that he offered his valuable services to the county.
He remailed in Franklin until he moved to Alabama in about 1827.
