Aurelius enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 28 December 1861 in Jasper, Texas. He was mustered as a Private in Company C, 25th Texas Cavalry. He was captured 21 July 1864 near Atlanta, Georgia and received at Camp Chase Prison in Columbus, Ohio on 2 August 1864. He died at Camp Chase on 6 November 1864 of typhoid fever and pneumonia.
