Lois Nadyne Stepp (July 7, 1923- Oct.7, 2000) [77] Married Leland [Lee} Hummel on June 9, 1940. They remained married for just a little over 60 years, through thick & through thin. 'for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer'. "til death do us part".

Lois, known to everyone as Dee or Dee Dee, was the daughter of Charles and Mary Stepp {Steppenowski} of Dixon, Illinois. Charlie Stepp was a hardworking salesman for a meat packing company, and was a faithful and doting father to his two daughters, Dee Dee & Dorothy.
Mom and Grandma, Dee Dee - Nadyne, loved her children and grandchildren and lived her life to see them happy. She sacrificed many things to help them and to take care of them. - this will never be forgotten.
Her main job in life was always "being Mom" and baby-sitting. ... :^)

Leland, known as Lee, worked in the Milledgeville meat market before moving to Polo to run the Polo Meat Market & Locker Plant, which for many years was the major retail outlet for fresh beef & pork in the entire Polo area of Illinois. Later he sold insurance, mostly with the Combined Insurance Company, and was one of their top agents in his region. He loved "the Golden Bowl" bowling league and very much LOVED the game of golf, and taught all four of his boys to play the game. [two of whom, Butch and Curt, proved to be local champions in golf, both in high school and early adulthood. Butch, perhaps could have even turned fully professional if he had determined to pursue that route in life].

Leland and wife, Dee Dee, also managed the Edgewood Public Golf Course for several years near Polo, Illnois, and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1975, living out the rest of their semi-retired life there at the Holiday Spa Trailer Park, - a very nice, cozy Trailer Park in the sunny, sunny Sunnyslope portion of Phoenix,AZ.
They had five children:

*Leland Meyers, Jr. (Butch) was born Jan 6. 1942. Growing up he worked most days at the meat market and could well manage the business when Dad was away; he also set pins at the bowling alley which was right next door to the market. [Lonnie & Steve held down the same kind of jobs when they were old enough in the early teens]

*Deborah Annette (Mar. 31,1946) married Steve Hunt on Aug. 13, 1966. They had two children, Suna and Ryan. Later, they were divorced and Debbie eventually moved to Surprise, Arizona, where she has worked as a healthcare professional. Both Butch & Debbie were gifted with very high IQ's in the near genius level.

*Leonard (Lonnie or Len Charles) was born July 29, 1947. After high school & college, he drifted around working many different jobs, living in Freeport, DeKalb, Polo, Miami, Miami Beach, and eventually Phoenix, Glendale, and (later) Manila & Cebu, Philippines. He and his wife, Lynne Suzanne, are currently missionaries in the Philippines since 1988, working on the mission field with (mostly) very poor families & destitute children for over 22 years. Lonnie is also a poet & writer. Lynne is completing, as of mid-2011, her lengthy 46 chapter biography & testimony book titled, FATHER TO THE FATHERLESS. They have published many dozens of booklets & tracts & pamphlets over the last 20 years, all related to the Christian Gospel & Christian living.

*Steven Craig was born Feb.9, 1949. He and his wife, Anca, live in Glendale, Arizona. They have one son, Andrew, who hopes to study to be a medical doctor or surgeon.

*Curt Allen was born May 6, 1952. He and his wife Margarita lived in Florida. They had 3 children, Stacy, Kerry and Mallory. Curt was tragically killed in an automobile accident near Miami in the early 1980's.

The first child of Lee and Dee Hummel, *Leland M. Hummel, Jr. (Butch), married Sandra Jo Abels on June 19,1965. They lived in Baileyville , Illinois and Butch worked in the computer area at MicroSwitch Division of Honeywell in Freeport. He remained there until retirement in 2009. They have lived near Polo, Illinois since the early 1970's.

Our beloved Mom and Grandma bravely lived through her last years with several very difficult infirmities, including serious kidney failure and dialysis twice & thrice a week. She was a true "home-body" and rarely socialized except to see her own children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wendy, Marci, Suna, Ryan, Brianna, Brent, Brant, and Steven Andrew.

**Mom & Dad also had some very special children from a local family in Phoenix, [a family originally from India] that they virtually adopted as their own in their latter years: Laxmi and Ganesh Acharya, and Krishna and Arvind Vijayasarathi. These precious and special children were a great joy to them as they spent many months & years taking care of these beautiful Indian children as tho they were their very own.** They were, in fact, treated as their very own children&grandchildren and were a constant source of much laughter and joy to them in their final years. - truly, this was a blessing from GOD also.

She is, of course, greatly missed by all who knew her. ... all her children now wish they had remembered "Mother's Day" more faithfully through the years. Rest in peace, Mom. Surely your spirit & soul is in Heaven now with Dad and Dorothy & Glenn and Mary Stepp & Charlie Stepp and Hazel and WJ, Bud and Curt Allen and all the rest who have passed on.(!) you are missed. muchO moochO moochachoo.
