Born in Trumbull Co, Ohio, John was the son of George Housel and Mary Ann Palm. Our family records state that he married Martha Holderness at Windham, IA around July 1856. They had four children:
Almira Ann 1858-1931 mar. Charles Lytton of VA,
Dorlesca Parmelia 1859-1938 never married,
Clara Rose 1862-1908 mar. Washington Graham Koogler,
John Sirus (or Cyrus?) b. 1865 and died before 1880.

In the 1885 Iowa Census for English River, Washington Co, IA
John Housel age 51 was married and living with second wife
Sarah. I cannot find a record of this marriage. I think it was the second one for both of them. Her name at the time of their marriage is listed in the Iowa Cemetery Record as (Mrs.)Sara Sandiland.

I am still unclear as to why only Dora's birth and death year appear on the grave stone. If all 3 are buried here, is there more information on the back of the stone?
