Richard Wilson Hewitt, 66, of 1607 West Palmetto Street, died Sunday of a heart attack while visiting the home of a Florence relative. He had been in declining health for several years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Monday in the Stoudenmire Chapel by Dr. Melvin K. Medlock. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Raleigh Dalton, Alfred Cook, Henry Hoffmeyer, George Jordan, Charles Hewitt and Irving McPherson.
Mr. Hewitt was born March 20, 1897 in Florence County and was a son of the late Edwin C. and Mary King Hewitt, both natives of Florence County.
He was retired from the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad about three years ago after about 40 years of service. He was a member of Central Methodist Church, the Railroad Trainmen, a veteran of World War I and a member of the VFW and the American Legion Fred H. Sexton Post No. 1.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Idell Scott Hewitt of Florence; two brothers, Rufus B. Hewitt of Florence and Timmons M. Hewitt of Darlington; one sister, Mrs. F.H. McPherson of Florence.
The family will be at the residence, 1607 West Palmetto St.
The body will remain at Stoudenmire Funeral Home until time of the services.
