The memorial service will be held Wednesday for Raymond L. Gates of Langlois, formerly of Eugene, who died Dec. 28 of age related causes. He was 94.
Gates was born Aug. 29, 1909, in Crow to Earl and Anna Doster Gates. He married Irma Stephenson in Longview, Wash. on Feb. 4, 1933. She preceded him in death.
He lived in Eugene from 1930 to 1979 when he moved to Langlois.
He was a graduate of Eugene High School. He gold mined in Mountain Ranch, Calif. in his youth. He was a custom home builder in Eugene and other Oregon communities.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. He spent many hours doing woodworking projects for family, friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed exploring old mining sites.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Springfield and Bruce of Cascade Locks; a daughter, Nancy Clark of Creswell; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Today's service will be at noon at West Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Eugene. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
