CLANTON, Ala.~~~~Lloyd Barnes, 85, died July 27, 2011, at his residence.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at the Norwood Funeral Home chapel in Guin with Charlie Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow in West Alabama Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Barnes was born to the late Houston and Julie Gosa Barnes in Woodruff County, Ark. After being orphaned and raised by numerous relatives, he joined the Army to fight Nazis in World War II at age 17. A decorated veteran, he lost his right leg serving with the Seventh Army in France along the German border. Formerly of Guin, Ala, he had served as mayor there and was retired from Health-Tex Inc. as office manager. He was a member of Guin First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janie Dunavin, and grandson, Tim Barnes.

He is survived by his wife, Lila Mae McNece Barnes of Clanton; sons, David Barnes of Sulligent, Ala., Phillip Barnes of Guin, and Rodney Barnes of Clanton; daughters, Jenny Ingman of Brentwood, Tenn., and Wanda Martin of Clanton; two granddaughters.
