DYCK
Dec. 20, 1913 to Dec. 31, 2010
Peter Frank Dyck peacefully went to be with the Lord at Good Samaritan's West Highlands on Friday, December 31st at the age of 97 years. Peter is the beloved husband of 67 years to Lydia, loving father and grandfather and seven great grandchildren.
Peter was predeceased by his parents: Franz & Maria Dyck, his brothers: Frank (Maria) Dyck, Henry Dyck, his sister Maria (Ed) Boehr, numerous brothers & sisters-in-law, and his son-in-law James Gibbon.
Peter was born in Ebenfeld, Slavgorod, Russia (Siberia); his family immigrated to Canada, arriving by boat in November 1926, travelling by CPR to Acme, Alberta. The family eventually settled in Coaldale where Peter was baptized in 1936, then met the love of his life and married Lydia Dyck on December 28, 1943. They lived in Coaldale until taking up farming in Pincher Creek in 1946. Here they raised their seven children, eventually retiring into town in 1974, and subsequently to Creekside Village in 1997. In 2007, Peter & Lydia took up residence at The
View in Lethbridge and in March of 2009 both moved to Good Samaritan's West Highlands, dad to assisted living and mom in the adjoining Life Lease from which she could go visit Peter everyday. Peter loved the Lord, his family and farming … indeed it was his memories that sustained him in the last years where he would often speak of the seeding and harvest, repairing equipment, chasing cows and always had words of wisdom and love for Lydia, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private family interment will be held at Springridge Cemetery Saturday, January 15, 2011.
A Celebration of Peter's life will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Springridge Mennonite Church.
