Houston Chronicle, March 31, 2007:

Irene Carroll, 78, of Nacogdoches, passed away at her residence, Thursday, March 29, 2007.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, March 31, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches, with The Rev. Monsignor James E. Young of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Born March 26, 1929 in Shiner, Texas, she was the daughter of Joseph Koranek and Mary Lopanek Koranek. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. She graduated with honors from El Campo High School in 1944. She was the clinic manager of the Rubellas' Clinic in Houston. She also worked for Dr. Michael DeBakey and Dr. Denton Cooley in Houston. She and her husband also owned L.C. & L. Construction in Houston.

Mrs. Carroll is survived by her daughters, Pattie Miller and husband, Wade, of Nacogdoches and Carol Burns and husband, Joe, of Keller, TX.; brother, Robert Koranek of Houston; sister, Marie Zinnante of Bellaire, TX.; grandchildren, Ryan Burns, Corbitt Burns and wife, Lindsey, and Colin Burns, all of Fort Worth, Patrick Miller, Richard Miller, and Katherine Miller, all of Nacogdoches; one great-grandson, Brett Burns of Fort Worth; two nieces, Alison Steffek and Angela Krouse; three nephews, David Steffek, Douglas Steffek, and Robert Koranek, Jr.; and Mrs. Carroll's constant companion and pet, her cat, Sweetie.

Special thanks are to be given to Mrs. Carroll's caregivers, Vinnie Curtis, Lillian Curtis, Martha Knowles, Mary Rushing, Lola Scott, Shay Scott, Berne Scott, and Jamika Thomas. Also, her dear family friend, Gloria Whiteley.

Mrs. Carroll is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, M.C. Newton; second husband, Lonnie J. Carroll; and one sister, Emily Steffek.

Pallbearers will be David Steffek, Ryan Burns, Corbitt Burns, Colin Burns, Patrick Miller, and Richard Miller.

Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 30, 2007 at the funeral home, followed by a rosary at 7:00 P.M.
