Mary Jane wed Fredrick Adge on May 30, 1876 in Placer County. She was a hotel proprietress in Iowa Hill. At the age of 35, while on her way to Auburn to arrange for a divorce, the wagon in which she rode overturned in a swollen river about a mile and a half from Colfax, and she was drowned. She was the mother of four to five children; the eldest, Isador, was with her at the time of the accident but he fortunately survived.
