RAPID RIVER - Richard J. "Dickie" Vietzke, 79, of Rapid River, passed away Wednesday morning, July 20, 2011, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following complications of a heart attack.

Dickie was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Escanaba, the son of Henry W. and Cecelia (Bolcerek) Vietzke. Dickie attended the Milwaukee schools and Rapid River schools and has remained in Rapid River since. Dickie worked for various employers during the course of his life including the Rapid River Creamery, as well as the Gladstone Bakery. Dickie was a member of the St. Charles Church in Rapid River and the Rapid River Lions Club. He always looked forward to helping with the St. Charles pasty bake and enjoyed woodworking, making hook rugs, painting, watching westerns, cutting grass, fishing and swimming. Dickie loved to spend time with his nieces, nephews, friends and family. He was a kind man and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Survivors include: brother, Terry (Kay) Vietzke of Waukesha, Wis.; sister, Judy (Richard) Solis of Wheeling, Ill.; sisters in law, Vera Vietzke of Gladstone, Sandra Vietzke of Rapid River. Also surviving are numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.

Dickie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Cecelia; brothers, Henry "Sonnie" and Thomas Vietzke; nieces, Tina Clark and Joelle Vietzke.

The Vietzke family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the St. Charles Church in Rapid River. Mass of Christian Burial services will follow visiting hours on Tuesday, at 4 p.m. at St. Charles Church with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow mass in the St. Charles Parish Hall. Dickie will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.
