Three adults and one juvenile were later apprehended and charged with murder. The two shooters were sentenced to 100-199 years in prison for two counts of murder. These killers have parole review every three years.

On 17 July 1970 PO Anthony N Rizzato #12407 & Sgt James L Severin #1319 were assigned to Area 6 Task Force on the Walk and Talk Program inside of the Cabrini Green Housing Complex. While these men patrolled the Greens on foot in the area of Seward Park located at Sedgwick & Division they were cut down by sniper fire from the nearby high rise building. Police cars arrived and as assisting officers attempted to remove the bodies of their fallen comrades from harms way the shots rang out from the buildings. The Officers formed a shield so that they could move PO Rizzato and Sgt Severin to nearby Henrotin Hospital where they were dead upon arrival.
