KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AS A HOUSTON POLICE OFFICER

Charles Roy Clark, 45, of Houston passed away April 3, 2003 in Houston Texas. He was born October 24, 1957 in Houston. Officer Clark served as a Police Officer with the Houston Police Department for 20 years.

He is preceded in death by his father Claude L. Clark. He is survived by his wife Hilde Clark; mother Ina Clark; father-in-law Manuel E. Martinez, Sr.; brother Robert Clark and wife Connie; sister Marlene Keele and husband Jimmy, Lora Smith; sister-in-law Elizabeth Richie, Monica Burns, Elfriede Whitby and husband Doug; brothers-in-law Manuel Martinez, Henry Martinez, Frank Martinez, John Martinez, Benjamin Martinez and wife Maria, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., Sunday, April 6, 2003 and Monday from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, located at 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas 77023. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Sagemont Church, 11300 South Sam Houston Parkway East, Houston, Texas 77089.

Officer Charles Clark was shot and killed while responding to a silent alarm at a check cashing store on South Loop East.

Officer Clark arrived less then four minutes after the alarm button was pushed. As he entered the store, the suspects opened fire, striking him in the shoulder. He returned fire but his service weapon jammed after firing the first shot. As he called for assistance, one of the suspects shot him in the head execution style. The suspects then executed the female store clerk before fleeing. The three suspects were apprehended the following day. The shooter and a second suspect were convicted of murder and sentenced to death.

Charles lived to be 45 years, 5 months and 10 days old.
