NEWTON — Durwood D. Fiedler, 78, died on Tuesday (July 12, 2011) at Asbury Park in Newton.
He was born on June 23, 1933, in Peabody to Fred W. and Olive (Gaede) Fiedler. On Oct. 23, 1955, he married Carol J. Regier at the Missionary Church in Elbing.
Durwood was a retired machinist for Hay and Forage and also worked as a self-employed contractor and carpenter. He enjoyed camping and fishing and his coffee group at C.J.'s pancake house. Durwood looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Fiedler of Newton; sons, Brian and Julie Fiedler of Wichita, and Brandon and Carmen Fiedler of Newton; daughter, Brenda Baker and partner, Phillip Scott, of Newton; sister-in-law, Sally Fiedler of Salina; brother, Dennis and Sharon Fiedler of Beatrice, Neb.; five grandchildren, including Katie Fiedler and her partner, George Cassanova, Kyle Fiedler, Amanda Fiedler, Jacob Fiedler and Kris Totten; and one great-grandchild, Jordynn Totten.
Durwood was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerry and LaVern Ray Fiedler; stepbrothers, Buddy and H. Eugene Cox; and one stepsister, Frances Thornhill.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Private family graveside will take place in the First Missionary Church Cemetery in rural Elbing. A public memorial service will be announced at a later date at Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton.
Memorials may be left with Immanuel Baptist Church or The Kidney Foundation, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
