U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Albany Normal School Georgia, in 1905, Fisk University Tennessee, in 1909 and Northwestern University Law School Illinois, in 1912. During World War I, he served as a First Lieutenant in the 365th Infantry, US Army, (1917-19). After the war, he was admitted to the bar in 1920 and started private practice in Chicago, Illinois. He was the State central committeeman for the First Congressional District of Illinois, (1930-32) and alderman for the second ward of Chicago, (1933-39). In 1943, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-eighth Congress and to the next thirteen succeeding Congresses, serving until his death from pneumonia at age 84.
